What is Monday Ink Comics?

Hello, I'm Monday, an author and illustrator. I'm interested in novels, comics, and (of course) illustration. The genres I often engage in is varied but I prefer horror when it comes time to read a novel! The main reason I create is...because it's fun! This entire website is a one-man show. I'm behind most of the things you'll see on this blog.

I begun drawing and writing from a very young and..just never stopped as you can see. So, I guess you can say I'm a bit stubborn. Even within the midst that is depression, I'll still figure out a way to be creative. Whether that be giving up on drawing for awhile to focus on writing fiction. Either way, I want to create something. Sharing it with others is a different matter. In fact, I struggle with sharing. I'm often withdrawn and isolate myself due to my condition. So, I'm going to share even though I'm a bit slow at updating. Share my process, share my insights, and share the occasional rant about whatever.

When I first tried to build an artistic career, I used a digital tablet to draw in various art programs such as Medibang, then upgraded to Clip Studio Paint. At first, I wasn't that good drawing on a tablet. It was a bit awkward trying to draw and look at the screen at the same time. Many of my drawings on the computer were worse then my sketches on paper but as time passed, I grew accustomed to it. Naturally, my skills grew. Now, I'm in a time in my life where I'm satisfied of what I manage to put out digitally.

However, I always valued doing things traditionally. While I improved to a decent level in digital, doing so meant my painting skills were left stagnant. My chosen painting medium is acrylic for it's fast drying time and ease of use. Is it actually easier though? Nope! I still have much to learn from this paint. Obviously, this means all my comics from here on out will be ink and paper. Which means more difficulty but plenty of artists done it before and I'm not intimidated. I look forward to the amount of original work I will physically have in my hands.

My reading list is filled with a wide variety of genres. I read comic, manga, novels, and the occasional self-help book. However, if you were to ask what are my favorites, they tend to be Japanese in origin. I grew up on anime and manga, reading things like Sgt.Frog, Fruits Basket, and BLEACH. My childhood anime were shows like Pretear, Mawaru Penguindrum, and Case Closed. The episode with the Axe Murderer in Case Closed left an impression in my child self's brain that I revisited it years into my teens. These shows and manga were my first exposure to the world of storytelling through the mix of imagery and text. As well as being some of my first artistic inspirations.

As I grew and become an active lurker on social media(I'm trying to change that!), my artistic inspirations grew with me. The amount of social media artists that had influence in my developing art is too many to count. In the last few years, I have struggled finding motivation to draw as depression has been an huge detriment to my growth, leading me to write instead. I had written a few short stories, none being published and attempted writing a novel. All this to say, that even if I'm not drawing, I'm still writing up fiction to satisfy my imagination.

So, that's how I would define Monday. A creative, albeit depressed, artistic author who likes horror and romance, comedies and drama, all while having fun creating the art that would appease me. Stay tune to see upcoming works of mine! Thanks for reading. While you're here, subscribe to my substack:
